Dress Code

Pants. Jeans or dress slacks are appropriate. Short pants are not allowed. Pants are to be in good condition, not badly faded out, or with patches or holes. Army fatigues, camouflage and mod apparel are considered inappropriate.


Shirts. Pullovers or traditional shirts may be worn. Shirts may not have emblems that advertise a product, slogan, place, monster, super hero, Hollywood star, etc., printed on them. Shirts are to be tucked in at all times.


Socks. Must be worn at all times and be in good condition, clean, and without holes.


Shoes. Tennis shoes, casual type shoes or dress shoes may be worn. No sandals are permitted. All shoes must be clean, without holes and in good repair.


Hair. Must be trimmed in the back and must not hang over the collar. Hair on the sides of the head must be tapered so that it does not touch the ear. Hair is to be neatly cut and combed so that it is no lower than the middle of the forehead–approximately two fingers above the eyebrows. Sideburns are to be no longer than the ear opening. “Skater” cuts, fades, “hi-lows,” lines, or blocked hairstyles are not permitted. Regular hair checks will be conducted.


Jewelry. Necklaces, earrings, or bracelets are not permitted. Watches are permitted.


Other. No male student is permitted to have tattoos or body piercing.


NOTE: Any article of clothing the Administration feels is not appropriate will not be allowed. The administration reserves the right to determine if dress or appearance is appropriate. Parents will be notified of inappropriate dress or appearance and will be given the necessary steps for correcting the problem.

K4-3rd Grades. Boys are to wear the required school uniform consisting of navy blue pants and red or green pullover knit shirt with the JCA emblem on it. K4 does not require a belt, but for K5-12th grade a belt must be worn at all times.


4th-6th Grades. Boys are to wear the required school uniform consisting of navy blue pants and red or green pullover knit shirt with the JCA emblem on it. On Wednesday Chapel Day, boys must wear a white button down oxford shirt and navy tie with navy blue pants. A belt must be worn at all times.


7th-12th Grades. Boys are to wear the required school uniform consisting of navy or khaki pleated pants and navy, red, white, or green* pullover knit shirt with the JCA emblem on it. Only White T-shirts, having no markings, may be worn underneath the uniform shirts. Undershirts are a must when wearing the white polo.* On Wednesday Chapel Day, boys must wear a white button down oxford shirt, dress tie, navy or khaki pants, and dress shoes. A belt must be worn at all times.


P.E. Uniforms. Boys must wear loose-fitting, dark-colored wind pants with a plain dark t-shirt and tennis shoes with socks. P.E. uniforms should be worn the way the manufacturer intended them to be worn. (Ex: no rolling sleeves, tying shirt hems, hiking pant legs.)


Sweatshirts & Jackets. A JCA emblem sweatshirt may be worn on cooler days. Jackets having logos or advertising a product, school, or team may be worn to and from school, but it must be kept either hanging on the appropriate coat rack, locker room, or inside the student’s cubby. Jackets may not be worn to class!


Socks. Socks must be worn at all times. The may be white of a dark color. All socks must be above the ankle bones.


Shoes. Elementary students may wear dressy, casual or tennis shoes to class. Tennis shoes are recommended over dress shoes due to the playground activities. Secondary students are required to wear either dress or casual dress shoes to class–no tennis shoes! No “high top” shoes. “High tops” are defined as anything above the ankle. No radial or off-beat colors allowed. Boots and sandals are not permitted. Shoes should be worn the correct way with tongues underneath completely tied laces.


Jewelry. Necklaces, earrings or bracelets are not permitted. Watches are permitted.


Other. No male student will have a tattoo or body piercing. Old, worn out, faded or discolored clothing may not be worn. Uniform shirttails must be tucked in at all times.


Hair. Hair should be thinned and properly trimmed around the ears. Sideburns are not to extend farther down than the middle of the ear and are to be neatly trimmed. Hair should be off the ears and collar and cut in a generally tapered manner in keeping with the natural hairline. No fades, sculptured looks, rat-tails, ponytails, shaved heads, “punk” styles, “bowl” cuts, lines, dyed hair, or other faddish hair styles are permitted. *Hair may not be longer than 3/4 inch when worn as a flattop or gelled in the front.

Dresses & Skirts. These should be worn at all times. They must be of modest fit and length (to or below the knee). Dress or skirt length can be measured by the student kneeling on the floor to ensure that the hem touches the floor.


NO SUNDRESSES or spaghetti-strap dresses are to be worn unless there is a blouse underneath. No short dresses with matching bloomers, shorts (unless worn underneath dresses for modesty), pantsuits or slacks may be worn. Clothing should not have emblems that advertise a product, place, monster, slogan, super hero, Hollywood stars, etc.


Socks. Socks should be worn every day. The socks may be ankle or knee length. Plain colored leotards may be worn in cold weather. Leg warmers are permitted on the playground only in cold weather.


Shoes. Tennis shoes, casual type shoes or dress shoes may be worn. No “high tops” or “cuff” style shoes are allowed. “High tops” are defined as anything above the ankle. No jellies or sandals are permitted. Shoes must be clean, without holes and in good repair.


Hair. Must be clean, combed and styled in such a way that it is controlled away from the eyes. Extremely short haircuts are not allowed.


Jewelry. Girls may wear small earrings and necklaces. Flashy, gaudy or long dangling earrings or jewelry are not permitted. This includes questionable rings, “choker” necklaces and watchbands. Only one earring in each ear is allowed. This will be worn on the ear lobe. No toe rings or ankle bracelets allowed.


Makeup. Only light colored nail polish, if any, may be worn. No makeup is allowed.

4th Grade. Girls in the fourth grade have the option of wearing either the plaid belted jumper and white blouse or the plaid skirt and navy, green, or red pullover knit shirt with the JCA emblem on it. Jumpers and skirts must be knee-length or longer.


5th-6th Grades. Required uniform consisting of a plaid skirt and navy, green, or red pullover knit shirt with the JCA emblem on it. Skirts must be knee-length or longer.


7th-12th Grades. Required uniform consisting of either a navy or khaki A-line skirt with a kick pleat in the back with a navy, red, white, or green* pullover knit shirt with the JCA emblem on it. Only White T-shirts, having no markings, may be worn underneath the uniform shirts. Undershirts are a must when wearing the white polo.* The skirt must be below the knee. Wednesday Chapel Day: Hose and dress shoes are required with the regular uniform.


P.E. Uniforms. School approved knee-length culottes are to be worn with a plain dark t-shirt and tennis shoes with socks. P.E. uniforms should be worn the way the manufacturer intended them to be worn. (Ex: no rolling sleeves, tying shirt hems, etc.)

Jackets having logos or advertising a product, school, or team may be worn to and from school, but it must be kept either hanging on the appropriate coat rack, locker room, or inside the student’s cubby. Socks/Hose. Elementary girls are required to wear either socks or leotards at all times. Secondary girls must wear plain socks or hose at all times. No striped or designed socks/hose should be worn. All socks must be above the ankle bones.


Shoes. Dress, casual, or tennis shoes are to be worn to class. Secondary students are required to wear either dress or casual dress shoes to class–No tennis shoes! Tennis shoes should be worn for P.E. activities. No sandals, opened toe or open heal shoes may be worn (clogs). No “high tops” or “cuff” type shoes are allowed. “High tops” are defined as anything above the ankle. No jellies or thong type sandals are permitted. All shoes must be clean, in good condition, and with no holes. High heeled shoes are not permitted.


Jewelry. Girls may wear small earrings and necklaces. Flashy, gaudy, or long dangling earrings or jewelry is not permitted. This includes questionable rings “choker” necklaces, and watchbands. Only one earring in each ear is allowed. This will be worn on the ear lobe. No toe rings or ankle bracelets are allowed.


Makeup. Only light colored nail polish, if any, may be worn. Elementary girls are not permitted to wear any makeup. Secondary girls may wear makeup that is light and not obvious.


Hair. Must be clean, combed, and styled in such a way that it is controlled away from the eyes. No “punk” styles. Short boy cuts are not permitted. No curlers or gaudy hair fashions are to be worn in the hair. Hair must appear natural looking, not streaked or dyed unnatural colors.


Other. No female student should have a tattoo or body piercing other than a single piercing in each ear lobe. Old, worn out, faded, or discolored clothing may not be worn. Uniform shirttails must be tucked in at all times.


Female students are not permitted to wear shorts, pantsuits, jeans, or gauchos to any school-sponsored event! We ask that parents also abide by the standards set by the Administration when inside the JCA buildings, and especially when attending or going with us to an activity.
